SOUTH POLE | NIGHT IN ANTARCTICA

The South Pole is one of the coldest, driest and harshest places on earth. The Aurora Australis can be seen together with the core of the milkyway only here in Antarctica. Temperatures below -70°C/-95°F during the polar night are not uncommon. Together with strong winds and exceptional aridity this is one of the hardest places to shoot timelapse in. Special equipment has been constructed and modified to keep the cameras running. Grey with warm wood tones

I love how cozy and characterful this Swedish home is. The wooden floor combined with the grey walls (lighter in the bedroom and darker in the living room) and the different tints of wood in the vintage furniture pieces really bring out the shades and textures of the pieces.  This style of decor is a little less minimal as what I usually post on this blog, but I find it inspiring nonetheless. I absolutely love the dark blue wall in the bedroom combined with the mustard yellow linen pillow* and beige linen throw*.  This is just such a powerful combo, enhanced even more by the dried flower wreath above the bed. The vintage desk in the corner of the bedroom …

watchOS 6 announced with new watchfaces, App Store, and more

Apple has announced the latest version of its smartwatch software platform, watchOS 6. The new Apple Watch software doesn’t drastically change things from prior versions, instead layering on iterative improvements and enhancements. The first big thing coming to watchOS is a suite of new watchfaces, joining the existing options that have been iterated on since the first version of the Apple Watch. A number of the new faces are meant to highlight their graphic design, while some add more information than was available in prior designs. Apple is also bringing more apps to the wearable, including a calculator, audiobooks, and voice memos. Apps will now be able to run locally on the app, without the need to have a companion …

Samsung announces new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros  The Verge Just ahead of WWDC 2019, Samsung has announced a couple of new laptops. They happen to go by the name of Notebook 7, but they’re so obviously and intensely inspired by Apple’s current laptop that Samsung is begging to be called out. There will be 13-inch and 15-inch versions of this Windows 10 laptop, each with design features that are practically identical to the MacBook Pro. It has diamond-cut edges, a wide trackpad, and slim bezels surrounding its screen. Samsung is flexing its dedication by cribbing even the small details: the font used on the keyboard and the wallpaper are a lot like A… View full coverage on Google News Read …

Angry Orchard just released a summery new drink that manages to combine all the things: seltzer, hard cider, and Rosé. Oh, and it also comes in a can. NASA spots explosion of X-rays glowing in the universe

NASA peers deep into the cosmos at the bright, leftover cinders of exploded stars, called pulsars. Now, the space agency has released a map-like image showing loops and arcs of X-ray energy — invisible to the naked eye — radiating from these dense cores of once massive stars. The most radiant spots are the suspected pulsars, repeatedly blasting X-ray energy into space. These trails of energy, or electromagnetic radiation, reveal the powerful sources of these X-rays. “Even with minimal processing, this image reveals the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant about 90 light-years across and thought to be 5,000 to 8,000 years old,” said NASA’s Keith Gendreau, who leads the imaging mission called NICER, in a statement. “We’re gradually building up …

The Next Level 2019 Exhibition Shines at NYCxDesign

Next Level is a fledgling design gallery that challenges the format of traditional profit-led trade shows and gallery curations by blurring the line between art and design. The 9,000 square foot space operates within its own ecosystem, where over 40 independent designers and artists display their works while acknowledging their connection to one another and the world as a whole. During NYCxDesign, Next Level featured a minimalist backdrop that honored each participating designer’s unique aesthetic while allowing room for the unfolding of a story between each piece. In collaboration with Pearl River Mart, the lower level of the space was transformed into an installation of more than 70 paper lanterns that had been painted by New York City artists. All …

Apple’s new $6,000 Mac Pro is a monster of a computer inside and out

We finally got a good look at the new Mac Pro launching this fall and it’s as monstrous as Apple boasted about during its announcement at WWDC 2019. With a design that throws it back to the old “cheese grater” aluminum tower, the new Mac Pro, which starts at $5,999, and the $4,999 Apple-designed 32-inch Pro Display XDR monitor are quite the pair to soak in. Apple didn’t let anyone touch the new Mac Pro, but we got to ogle it from all angles and check out a few demos of the most powerful Mac chewing through Logic audio streams and 8K-resolution Final Cut Pro X projects with ease. Dying Light 2 Will Be At Square Enix’s E3 Presentation

Dying Light was definitely a successful game. While Warner Bros. published the first title, developer Techland maintained both the IP rights and the right of first refusal for the sequel and opted to publish Dying Light 2 themselves. While that is still the case, the Dying Light developer has sought out some aid from Square Enix in distribution and marketing. That means that, while Square Enix has the world’s eyes on their show with Avengers and more, they will also show off a bit of Dying Light 2. We’re excited to partner with the talented folks at @TechlandGames to deliver the highly anticipated #DyingLight2 to the Americas! Samsung’s new Notebook 7 is essentially a MacBook Pro with Windows and more ports

Samsung has a couple of new laptops out: The Notebook 7 13”, the Notebook 7 15” and the Notebook 7 Force. The first two are your run-of-the-mill business laptops, which look very much like Apple’s MacBook Pro, while the 7 Force has an all-black design, is a bit more powerful and aims at creators.  While copying Apple design and improving on certain shortcomings can be a good tactic (see Huawei’s MateBook X), you’ll want to take a good look at these laptop’s specs before you buy one.  SEE ALSO: Samsung’s Galaxy Fold won’t launch in June, reports claim Here’s the thing: Even though they’re fairly similar, these three laptops have some key differences which might make them a great or …

How Monsanto manipulates journalists and academics | Carey Gillam

Monsanto’s own emails and documents reveal a disinformation campaign to hide its weedkiller’s possible links to cancer Over the past year, evidence of Monsanto’s deceptive efforts to defend the safety of its top-selling Roundup herbicide have been laid bare for all to see. Through three civil trials, the public release of internal corporate communications has revealed conduct that all three juries have found so unethical as to warrant punishing punitive damage awards. Much attention has been paid to Monsanto conversations in which company scientists casually discuss ghostwriting scientific papers and suppressing science that conflicts with corporate assertions of Roundup’s safety. There has also been public outrage over internal records illustrating cozy relationships with friendly regulators which border on – and …
