Paper flowers have not lost their allure and these absolutely ginormous versions made by the team at Ruche were wildly popular with all of you. Ferm Living Mingle table

I have made a small change to my living kitchen, which had such a great effect on the layout of this space. I replaced my old dining table with the Ferm Living Mingle table (gifted) and I love the look of the soft wood of the table top combined with the mingle legs in brass. I chose brass legs because I have brass finishes in my kitchen as well. The round table fits four people with ease just like the other table I had there before, but the room looks just so much more spacious now. I’m using my Shell pot as a centrepiece on the table and love how the ceramics combine with the light wood grain. The post …

Behind-The-Scenes PREDATOR Video Shows the Creation of the Original Alien Hunter

I know you’re all fans of the original 1987 John McTiernan-directed film Predator, and I’ve got a video here for you to watch today that is definitely worth checking out. The video was shared by Stan Winston School, and it offers us a behind-the-scenes look at what went into creating the original Predator. It features test footage, footage of the actor getting into the costume, concept art that inspired the design of the creature and more. Predator was such a great film, and that alien hunter character design is iconic. It’s crazy to me that none of the Predator films that have been made since have been able to capture the same magic that the original did. Hopefully, we won’t …

An Everyday Ritual Becomes a Zoological Tour with a Japanese Company’s Animal Tea Bags

Since 2016, Japanese tea company Ocean Tea Bag has been elevating an everyday ritual into an animal adventure. Intricate tea bag designs range from giant squids and otters to red pandas and cephalopods. Layers, folds, and perforations help to create the details of each creature’s body, which also doubles as a pouch for the tea blend inside. The company was created by Takahashi Shota and launched its first product, a dolphin design, with a crowdfunding campaign in 2015. Since then, Shota has added a vast menagerie of animals to the product line. Luckily, the company started accepting overseas orders just a few weeks ago. Sets of individual animals/flavors and variety packs are available on the Ocean Tea Bag website. Read …

Home in green and grey

There is a lot to say about this beautifully decorated Swedish home, but the wall colors really stand out to me the most. The green-grey walls in the living room look very fresh and give the otherwise modest decoration a boost. I love that this touch of green comes back in the painting that is hanging above the kitchen counter, such a nice touch. The green walls also make the plants stand out a lot more, did you notice ? The bedroom is painted in a cooler grey, which comes peeking through from the other room as well. I love the way the grey combines with the cognac leather of the armchair and with the crisp white linen bedding* and …

The Pixel 4 has already been photographed out in the wild

9to5Google has received a couple of photos of the upcoming Pixel 4, out in the world. Their tipster says the photos were taken in London and they confirm what Google had already shown with its tease earlier this week: there’s a big, square camera bump on the back. According to 9to5Google, the person who spotted the phone and snuck the photos also managed to get a glimpse of the front of the device, which reportedly did not have a notch but instead a large “forehead” with two cameras in it. Image: 9to5Google As you can see, the phone is in a case, and though it’s pretty blurry it looks like it’s Google’s classic fabric case that it has made for …

Sega does the retro console right with the fantastic Genesis Mini

Retro consoles are bittersweet little gadgets. They pack a ton of nostalgia, must-have-it miniature console design, and properly licensed software into a mostly affordable package that will, inevitably, mostly go unused sitting on your shelf. That’s because they are often cumbersome to play, and as gadgets teetering close to the edge of becoming cash grabs, they’re not really designed to be more robust than the emulator solution a teenager could hack together on a cheap laptop. The Sega Genesis Mini, on the other hand, is a great example of how a company can do its best to avoid those pitfalls. Sega brought the device, slated to start shipping in September for $79.99, to E3 this year, and I got to …

Lyft introduces pink-wheeled scooter that it says is better for scooter sharing

Lyft is introducing its first scooter model built specifically for scooter sharing. It’s meant to be more durable, with a longer battery life and bike-like brakes. The scooters are available in Denver, the first place Lyft rolled out its scooters last year. The new hand brake, on the left handlebar, is much like the ones on bikes, and will stop both wheels if pulled. The new frame, made by Segway, doesn’t fold, which Lyft says makes it sturdier; the company also said the scooter’s base is 20 percent wider, clocking in at 6.2 inches. The new batteries will hold a charge for about 35 to 40 miles. Earlier this week, Uber also announced a more-rugged scooter at its Elevate conference, and …

Intel’s NUC Compute Elements hopes to make laptops modular

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Imagine buying an ultrabook laptop or all-in-one PC that could be one day be easily have its guts swapped out for a faster CPU, faster RAM and faster SSD. If that sounds faintly like Intel’s failed Compute Card imitative from 2017, it is kinda. But when we talked to Intel officials recently at Computex in Taipei, they claimed to have thought about what made Compute Card fizzle and addressed it. While the previous version was limited to 5-watt Y-class CPUs, the new NUC Compute Elements can run 15-watt U-class chips. Part of that is helped by the design of the NUC Compute Elements, which uses the backside as a giant heat sink. …

The Pixel 4 is shaping up to be a Huawei Mate 20 Pro by Google

When Google announced its new interface gestures in Android Q, I got a sense of déjà vu, because I’d already seen them in Huawei’s EMUI. And when Google candidly revealed the rear of its upcoming Pixel 4 phone last night, I was again reminded of a Huawei product, this time the Mate 20 Pro of last year, which had the same square camera module filled with lenses. Combining the two together, I can’t help but feel that the stuff Google is cooking up for us in late 2019 will be a retread of what Huawei already delivered a year earlier. That’s not a knock on Google, but a sense of appreciation for how far ahead Huawei has been. China’s leading …

Byton’s massive 48-inch dashboard screen will also be used in its electric SUV

Byton was the darling of CES last year, showing off its never-ending dashboard screen and other touchscreens on practically every surface of the Chinese’s company first all-electric car, the M-Byte. Now we know that nearly all designs from the prototype car will actually be made, including that massive 48-inch end-to-end screen up front. This week Byton showed an interior glimpse into the final design of the cars as the first electric SUVs are made in China. The $45,000-starting-price car will make it to the U.S. after China by the end of 2020. The car will will feature the 48-inch gesture-controlled screen with Alexa (and Baidu) capabilities.  Read more… More about Electric Vehicles, Screens, Byton, Tech, and Transportation Read more: mashable.com

TL;DR: Add some smart lighting to your home with the TP-Link in-wall smart switch on sale for $25 at Walmart, saving you $10. There are so many ways to make your home “smart.” You can add smart technology to your scale, speaker, lighting, and so much more. One of them being the TP-Link HS200 in-wall smart switch, and right now you can grab it on sale for $25 at Walmart, $10 off its list price. Some smart switches require a separate hub to generate their power, but the TP-Link doesn’t. It connects right to your wall’s wiring, which might sound intimidating if you’re not an …

Skip the Lakes and see the Cumbrian coast – without a car

Of the millions who visit the Lake District every year, very few check out its dramatic coastline, so our writer has its beaches and wild dunes almost to herself The air smells of seaweed and woodsmoke as I step on to the platform at Ravenglass. The salt marsh nearby has galaxies of pale pink thrift flowers, the River Esk glitters in the evening light, and a waterside path heads off towards distant fells. As a fan of walking, Wordsworth and sticky toffee pudding, I’ve had many memorable holidays in the Lake District over the decades. But, like most of the other 16 million visitors a year, I’ve rarely visited the Cumbrian coast. I’d arrived in Lancaster 150 minutes after leaving …

These Lightweight Carry-On Suitcases Are Exactly What Your Summer Travels Require

There’s enough to worry about when we travel, but having to pay attention to how much your suitcase weighs brings on a whole new level of stress. Especially on smaller planes and when traveling through Europe, many airlines will even weigh your carry-on, which is precisely how I ended up having trouble breathing in the Venice airport with a full day of traveling ahead. If the idea of checking your bag also gives you heart palpitations, you need to make sure you get a light carry-on suitcase. These 14 pieces of luggage all weigh less than 9 pounds, which means more space for extra outfits, toiletries, and anything else you might need. Plus, if you end up having to run …
